PNEUMATIC CONVEYING IN CORRUGATED SYSTEMS
THE DESIGN OF CORRUGATED SYSTEMS IS DEPENDENT UPON THE SIZE AND CALIBER OF THE TRIM BEING PRODUCED.
In those cases, when the trim is less than 3 inches in width and the caliber is less than double wide, a single fan system can be used for conveying purposes. However, when the board becomes a higher caliber and the trim becomes wider, it will be necessary to use trim cutters prior to the fan system. Due to the stiffness of the board, it is necessary to place the fan inlet along the centerline of the machine which can either be above or below the web depending on the slitter locations.
For handling larger waste products, shredders are often used in the baling area. Due to the wide variety of waste product sizes, shredder manufactures provide different width models allowing for the most efficient feed rate. Therefore, the selection of a shredder is normally based on the size of the largest reject sheet being produced. However, with the larger width models (those greater than the normal 62″ model), an increase in the fan system used for conveying purposes is increased as well. This includes the required air volume and horsepower. Some may prefer to lose feeding efficiency and feed the wider rejects “long ways” into a 62″ shredder. In any event, ASDI offers many solutions to the concerns and needs of our clients.
Flexo Machines and Die cutters are sometimes part of the converting equipment in these plants. There are many ways of extracting the scrap being produced by these machines. First, a conveyor or air table is used to convey the scrap to one side of the machine. A hood is then placed at either end and the scrap is captured and conveyed to a separator system for baling.
THERE ARE MANY OTHER TYPES OF SYSTEMS THAT CAN BE USED.
Using a fan on every machine uses more horsepower, therefore, ASDI offers Sequential Systems that save energy without decreasing production.
Conveyor belts can be used to convey the scrap directly to the baler or used to collect scrap from several machines having the collected waste captured by a single hood powered by a single fan source.
Conveyor belts can be used to convey the scrap directly to a shredder which can also be used for the sheet waste. An air system is then used to convey all of the scrap to a baler.
For the highest energy savings, conveyor belts can be used in a trench and can feed the baler directly.
